The UK’s number one order and payment solution for the hospitality industry, OrderPay, has purchased its competitor Butlr for an undisclosed amount.

In a move that consolidates and strengthens its market leading position, OrderPay has acquired the entire Butlr estate – comprising 578 venues across the UK – bringing its total venue network to just over 3100.

Founded in 2019 by CRM, loyalty and business development executive Richard Carter and IT and digital innovation expert Rene Batsford, OrderPay has grown quickly over the past few years. A host of product innovations including ‘Pay & Go’, ‘Tab Creation’ and ‘Bill Splitting’ helped the company to win over £34.6m worth of business from competitors in Q4 2021.

While many order now pay now apps have struggled during the pandemic through enforced venue closures and reduced customer numbers, OrderPay has bucked the trend and continued to prosper. The Butlr asset acquisition is testament to that.

The Butlr portfolio that OrderPay takes over includes an extensive range of hospitality businesses including The Hut Group, Komedia comedy venues, along with many iconic bars and clubs in Manchester’s Gay Village and stand-out independent locations including the Electric Ballroom in London’s Camden and the Strongroom Bar in Shoreditch.

With a strong presence in England’s second city, Birmingham, plus Manchester and Bristol, the Butlr acquisition reinforces OrderPay’s position in these regions, while Butlr were able to take the time to find the right partner for their customers and give its consumer base a wider and more comprehensive reach.

Commenting on the move, OrderPay CEO Richard Carter said: “This is a real signal of intent from us and a big development in the evolution and growth of the business. The past two years have been tough but we’ve been keen to put the needs of the industry first. When it comes to hospitality we know there is no one-size fits all so we have developed the most intuitive, flexible and feature-packed system on the market.”

OrderPay will be working with all venues in the Butlr portfolio to transition to the OrderPay network between now and the end of March 2022. All Butlr customers will be able to take advantage of OrderPay’s industry supporting 0.99% promotional rate.
